The court cards can represent both individuals coming into our lives or events in our lives. Because I believe the wider the interpretation the more insight can be gained, I believe in searching through both for meaning in our life.

Across the suits the Princesses are messengers, bringing the essence of their suits to us. In this case, the Princess of Cups may bring a new relationship, the birth of a child, or a new love in one’s life. The Princess may also bring internal creativity, such as journaling or painting.

The Princess of Cups is represented by an idealistic young woman who appears to be peering into the world of the spiritual. Angels fly by her; and a child plays in a field behind her representing the purity and innocence of love.

As an individual, the Princess of Cups is young and child-like and brings a child’s appreciation of life’s simpler pleasures. Strong artistic or psychic talents might be evident or be developing within this individual. Characteristics would include child-like qualities that we appreciate such as openness, honesty, sincerity and imagination.

A negative of this card would be the child-like qualities that we frown on, such as acting without thinking, rash inappropriate actions, temper tantrums, or living in a fantasy world.

The title character in the television show Allie McBeal is a definite Princess of Cups. She is sensual, romantic and dreamy, always looking for a new relationship that will be perfect. The character of Holly Golightly in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s is another example of a Princess of Cups.
